Men's Style Blog

My men's professional style blog explores the confusing world of menswear in an explanatory way while maintaining a conversational language style injecting a humorous tone throughout. Many men in their late-teens and early-20s don't understand the rules and reasons professional men dress the way they do, and my blog sets out to help them, from the hats to wear in the coldest winter, to the rubber shoe protectors to wear in the wettest spring. Here are a couple highlights.

Still Wearing the Plastic Square-Toed Slip-Ons Your Dad Bought You for Homecoming? My Guide to Upgrading Your Footwear

The dress shoe; most young men think of them as shiny, uncomfortable, probably solid black, and probably square-toed and slip-on. It does not have to be this way. Ditch those rubber-soled plastic monstrosities and let’s get into what a dress shoe should be.

This was my first blog post related to men's style. It starts from the ground, considering it's about shoes. I wanted to grab a prospective reader's attention immediately by including humor and relatability right in the title. Many of us went to homecoming. Many of us had cheap, ugly, square-toed shoes, or some other ugly shoes our parents' supplied us. And many of us would still be wearing those shoes right out of college. This blog post aims to humorously assist the person who still does into better footwear.

My Twitter and Instagram posts relating to my blog entry about shoes have colorful visuals of the shoes I want my readers to get themselves into. It's important to have the photo be of the goal. I want my viewers to see the nice pair of shoes and think to themselves, "Wow, those are nice!" Then I want them to read the text that speaks to them and the lackluster shoes they may currently have.

Suits. Mad Men Made Them Cool Again. Keep Them Cool.

And now for the height of men’s business attire, the suit. Here we enter a category of clothing that can make you either look great, or like your midwestern, baby-boomer father  (whether you had one or not) dressed you. The actual differences are extremely subtle, but the difference they make on your overall look are huge.

This was the post I was most excited about making. After working in two men's stores whose primary products are suits, I've learned a lot over the past four years I've spent in the business. Fits and features such as pleats vs. plain front, wide vs. narrow lapels, and slim vs. full fits are all discussed in this post.

For my blog entry on suits, I wanted my social media posts to be more minimalistic. Because the blog focuses on men's style, an entry or two on suit basics is expected. I purposely did not make an entry on suits early on because I wanted my readers to anticipate it. When I finally did post an entry about suits, my text was simple, stating that the suit post was "finally here." My visuals were simple also, showing a silhouette, akin to Mad Men imagery, a few suits in a closet, and a young business man standing outside an office. I wanted to entice the viewer to go to my blog, where I really got into the information they need to know when they make their suit purchase.
